Due to my excavation and publication of several operas by librettist Emanuel Schikaneder, who is still world-famous above all for The Magic Flute, I became aware of his complete works, which have almost been lost to history:
Besides the libretto for The Magic Flute, he wrote 55 plays and 44 books for operas and singspiels,
including The Philosopher’s Stone (1790) and The Magic Flute, Part Two: The Labyrinth (1798).
Further building on the success of The Magic Flute, Schikaneder’s libretto for the opera Babylon’s Pyramids contributed to another successful opera: From its premiere in 1797 to 1801, it was performed 64 times, which was considered very successful for the time.
The Tyrolean Wastl was even more successful, with 130 performances documented from its premiere on May 14, 1796, until 1856.

Bavaria can rightly “claim” Schikaneder for itself, since the foundation for his Viennese world success was laid in Bavaria:

That the Wagner Festival, with its Wagner Ring Cycle, is in Bayreuth is beyond question!
The Schikaneder Magic Flute Freemasons’ Ring Cycle even contains six operas, and the number of other operas surpasses that of the Wagner Festival.
